AI IS HAVING IT’S ‘HER’ MOMENT
OpenAI and Google both made big bets this week, the succinct wrap ups and analysis are here and here. Both announced voice assistants and gave visions of the future that don’t seem to be rooted in dreaded chatbots. The difference between the two seems to be trying to make a decision on style over substance. Both have everything to win/lose and yet neither seems to ever have a complete win.
OpenAI ended the week with lots of high-level departures and safety concerns after it disbanded it’s long-term safety team. Google had a good week, opting for substance over style (the opposite of OpenAI), but there are huge questions on both sides.
All eyes are about to be on NVIDIA who has earnings this coming week. If the earnings are good (and there are high expectations on positive guidance) everyone in the AI will be happy, if the earnings fail to thrill expect to hear the term ‘AI winter’ a lot. Not something a lot of companies or VCs really want to hear right now. A lot is riding on the results of the chip maker.
SO WHAT?
