APPLE TO LAUNCH SELF-DRIVING CAR IN 2025?
Apple is redirecting its focus to launch a fully self-driving car, not a conventional one or semi-autonomous as previously thought. Plans are “fluid” though (no surprise there), although Marc Gurman is rarely wrong. The money is there, the brand is there, the tech is (almost) there.
The story noted that Apple is thinking no peddles or steering wheel, that’s a big stretch with the laws and how the tech works. Driverless cars are increasingly viable but there are issues with pesky human behaviours.
Where health is Amazon’s growth cash cow, cars could be Apple’s. The only thing standing in Apple’s way is the law and the tech. The potential money speaks for itself; “If you assume Apple can capture 10% of the auto market, (they have just under 20% of the phone market today at $60k per car, equals $540B annual revenue business. That compares to Apple's 2022 expected total revenue is $380B.” Beyond this, Apple just wants to extend the Apple experience;j what a car will be in 5-10 years will be drastically different to what it is today.
__ DO __ Expect much conjecture. This is Apple after all. Cars have been on the horizon for years with Apple, on-again, off-again. The question has always been when not really if. The autonomous move is smart for Apple, although considering they can’t get my Siri to understand that I want to shuffle songs unless I use specific verbiage. I won’t get getting in the first ride. // __ DON'T __ Believe this is a done deal, there’s red tape for the red tape. Laws are being rewritten and Tesla really leads the world right now. Safety will be the key message here, and Apple doesn’t have anything in that realm right now. That aside, Apple make good phones, the jury is out whether than transfers to cars. There’s nothing to say the company can’t.
